This adventure of Mr. Hood and his Merry Pranksters is signed "Dan Barry," who is justifiably better known for his later work on Flash Gordon. From Buster Brown Comics #9, published in the Fall of 1947. Down below, that dude on the cover next to Smilin' Ed looks like he was hit with a Kirby stick.
